Soft and Romantic

Our master bedroom has been through quite a few makeovers.  I think it's natural for our style to evolve as we change and mature.  Since we've been making changes in the rest of the house and moving towards a softer, white palate I wanted to continue it into our bedroom and create a brighter, softer and more romantic space. The one change that made the biggest impact was removing the old orange laminate floor which was so satisfying!  We then laid pine boards which I painted white to flow with the rest of the house. It made the biggest impact in the overall feel and look of the room. After giving the walls and ceiling a fresh coat of paint I added these lovely smocked drapes.

One of my newest, favorite finds for this room was the vintage room divider. I found it on Offerup and although the finish was not quite the look I was going for, I could see the potential and what it could be with just a few changes. After I picked it up and brought it home I was excited to get started! I went for my trusty Miss Mustard Seed Milk paint stash and mixed several colors together until I achieved my desired shade. As the first coat of paint started to dry, to my dismay, I noticed  it was starting to chip all over! I was so mad and frustrated!  I knew the only remedy would be to sand each door separately and start from scratch, ugh! Sanding is not my favorite past time!! However, my vision of how beautiful they would look kept me motivated. I removed the hinges and the panels spent a week or so in the garage while I waited for the weather to cooperate.  When I had some free time, I would go set up my work area outside and sand away.  When you have to  tackle a dreaded task, it's all about attitude!  It took several days over a span of a few weeks to finally get them all sanded.  Once they were done, my hubby added plywood to the top "open window" areas and I started to paint, my favorite part! While I was painting, I remembered that I had some Efex moldings left over from a previous project. I pulled them out and played around with the idea of adding some French flair to the panels. I had enough to do one and, after adding and painting them, I knew I had made the right decision! I absolutely loved them! Sadly, I had to wait to finish the last 2 panels because I had to order more moldings. I think you'll agree it was well worth the wait! Now that the room divider is done and sitting pretty in it's new spot, I couldn't love it more! The efex moldings are the icing on the cake!

I found these antique hatboxes on Etsy and they are probably one of my top 10 favorite finds. They are just the perfect romantic addition to my bedroom decor. Can't you just see the ladies in their gorgeous gowns going shopping and carrying their new hat purchases in these amazing hat boxes? Swoon! 

Another way I love to style this area is with this gilded table. A cute little French crystal lamp and some pretty blooms make it the perfect spot to sip a cup of tea, read a favorite book... or maybe daydream? 

I added this antique reproduction metal coat hook to hold my vintage Tutu and ballet pointe shoes. I wanted it to look old so I painted it with milk paint and it chipped perfectly!

One thing that hasn't changed and probably never will is this dresser I painted years ago. I used Miss Mustard Seed Milk paint in the color Mora and I hand painted the floral details.
​It's perfect for holding all my pretty things.

All in all, this makeover took several months. We did it in stages as time and budget allowed. Not ideal, of course,  but it was my reality and we made it work. In the end it was totally worth the wait and we are loving our new bedroom!
