My Cozy Vintage-Inspired Bedroom

As I was throwing around ideas in my head about what to blog about this week, a reader approached me and asked if I would please blog about my bedroom as she was looking for inspiration for her own. So, today I will be sharing my tips and resources on how I styled my bedroom.

​It has taken me a few years of trial and error to finally get my bedroom to this point (imagine blue walls and mismatched furniture). It wasn't that bad, but I was still figuring out my style and that particular look was just not for me. Fast forward a few years when I finally saw my vision for this space and then it was all about putting it together with the help of my hubby! He's great to bounce ideas off of and comes in handy with the things I can't do, like the planked wall he installed behind the bed.

The crown jewel, of course, is the bed and bedding. The bed was a find on Offerup for $20. I did'nt want to deal with a box spring or bedskirt so my husband added 2 wooden 2x6 boards as the new side rails and then attached 12 1x4 boards (spaced evenly) on metal brackets to hold the mattress.  I painted the bed with Miss Mustard Seed milk paint in the color Ironstone. It chipped abit in places, which was perfect, and then I sealed it with 2 coats of polycrylic. I knew I wanted pure linen bedding, not only for the beauty of it, but for the health benefits as well. After searching a while and comparing prices, I found the Mooshop on Etsy. Her sewing is imaculate and she only uses the highest quality European linen. I fell in love with the ruffled duvet cover! I also purchased 2 ruffled pillowcases and 2 pillowcases with ties. The large euro shams with ruffles I purchased from another Etsy shop, Lowprofileluxury. The little vintage grain sack pillow is from vintagefarmhouseinteriors I found the chippy wooden shutters on the Etsy shop ARusticGarden. I absolutely love them and they add that pop against all the whites and creams. I layered all my windows with 2 sets of drapes. The first is a crinkle voile sheer in ivory from Target and then I added some white, slightly sheer drapes from Ikea. I don't remember the name but I do remember they were around $5 for a pack of 2. The curtain rods were also from Ikea. 

The little vintage crystal lamp bases were an antique store find at one of my favorite little places to visit, M&M Antiques in Monroe, WA. The white lampshades are from Home Depot. My nightstands were another craigslist find. I think, if I remember correctly, I paid $60 for the pair. I painted those with Annie Sloan chalk paint in the color French Linen, distressed the edges and sealed them with clear wax. I also added the cutest glass knobs I picked up at Hobby Lobby.

No room is complete without some pretty fresh flowers. I often get lucky at the grocery store but I do love to support my local floral shop, Down to Earth in Snoqualmie, WA. They always have the most beautiful flowers and the owner and staff are always so friendly and very helpful. As you can tell, I love decorating with antique and vintage finds and this vintage dress form is one of my favorites! Isn't she just beautiful? You can tell she was once repaired but I think it just adds to her charm. 

I love this dresser! She was another craigslist find. The shape of it and that top drawer to hold jewelry just made my heart sing! I painted her with Miss Mustard Seed milk paint in the color Mora and hand stenciled the florals in Ironstone, which was inspired by Marian herself!  As you can see, all of my furniture was purchased from craigslist and Offerup. You can find some amazing pieces for really cheap prices and transform them to suit your style and taste. As for decor and linens, my happy place is definitely Etsy! It's fun to browse and if I find something I like (but don't want to purchase right away) I put it in my cart. The item can still be purchased by someone else until you buy it. If it's just something I love and have to have but can't pay for it right away, many shop owners will hold items for you or even do layaway!
